AEP was hired to design a fire protection system for a portion of the existing outdoor automobile parking lot covered by the second floor of the building’s North end. The system is a fully alarmed 200 gallon capacity Dry-Pipe system that ties into an existing wet-pipe sprinkler system in the building. The existing system capacity was determined by a thorough survey of the existing wet pipe network accounting for all fire hoses and equipment. This survey along with results from a hydrant flow test was used to determine available residual pressure that governed the design. The system was hydraulically calculated and modeled for all scenarios of hydraulically most demanding areas.
