Work Scope: Residential HVAC Design
This turn of the century historic 3-story multi-family brownstone townhouse in Hoboken NJ required a heating system upgrade. The original oil-fired forced hot air furnace in the basement was a testament to the robustness and quality of early mechanical equipment, nonetheless, it was beyond its service life and needed to be replaced. The work called for modernization of the heating system as well as implementing a strategy for providing cooling in the summer. A strict requirement was to have any equipment integrate seamlessly with the historical architectural features of the building’s interior. AEP met this challenge by specifying era-correct refurbished Victorian cast-iron radiators. The new boiler however, is a high-efficiency modulating condensing boiler with an indirect tank for domestic hot water. The air conditioning for each apartment is handled with mini-split systems.
